Why a swivel chair?

Swivel Chairs are one of the hottest trends in seating today. Perfect for open concepts where you can switch from watching TV to talking to a family member or friend on an adjacent sofa in seconds, or perhaps you want to turn all the way around and talk to someone in the kitchen. A swivel chair gives your room lots of flexibility when it comes to function. In this article I will discuss various swivel chairs from Ethan Allen and some of the various features to look for when considering a swivel chair.

Swivel Chair vs. Swivel Rocker/Glider?

When choosing a swivel chair one of the most common choices you will want to decide is whether you prefer a swivel chair or a swivel glider. From my experience this all boils down to personal preference and perhaps taking a test ride of each will help you decide which one is best for you. Here is a breakdown of the differences and some of the pros and cons of each.

Swivel Chairs

The Swivel chair is a one function motion movement chair, being that the chair moves in a 360 degree motion only and does not move back and forth or any other direction. Great for stability and also if the chair is going close to a wall, because the last thing you want to do is start tearing up the chair or your walls with constant friction between the chairs and the walls. Below are the swivel only options offered by Ethan Allen in 2022 and all available in fabric or leather.

SWIVEL GLIDERS

Swivel gliders add a little more motion to the standard 360 directional motion. The swivel glider adds the “rocking” or “gliding” motion in addition to turning. Extremely popular as nursing room chairs, today’s swivel gliders are not just for moms chair with the baby. Most of the swivel gliders I place in clients homes are in the living room or in the bedroom as a reading chair. While most of my clients seem to feel that the swivel gliders are a bit more comfortable, sometimes they can be a little more challenging to get up out of the chair since there is more movement to the chair. Something to consider if you have any difficulty getting up out of chairs and prefer some stability in your seating. Below are some of the swivel gliders by Ethan Allen in 2022.
